Fatemeh Haghighat-Pajouh murdered her temporary
husband in March 2001. At her trial she alleged that
this husband, at then a 30 year old man named
Bahman, was a drug addict. He had confessed to her
that he had raped her 14-year-old daughter Zahra,
and claimed that he had no intention to leave Zahra
alone.
Enraged Fatemeh strangled him with a scarf and
then dismembered his body and left her home. Six
month later she was arrested. Around 2002 she was
sentenced to death for the murder of her "husband".
The verdict appears to have been upheld in 2004.
At least two times before Fatemeh had been taken to
the execution room and seen the setup prepared for
her: A cheap nylon noose dangling above a stool.
On 26 November 2008 her sentence was carried
out. This time te 37 years old woman found herself
hanging along with nine men in Evin prison.
The prison notified Zahra and her sister that they
could pick up their dead mother.
Fatemeh had been almost executed a couple of
times before the stool was removed from under her
feet.
